Why I made this project

The Paint and Sip format of art class is a great way for artists of all levels to create art, enjoy snacks and drinks together, and socialize. I wanted to create an app that improved convenience and accessibility for Paint and Sip class attendees to book a class.

Market Research

The Paint and Sip Industry has grown tremendously in the past decade, and is expected to reach $148 million in revenue in 2024. To stay ahead of the competition, businesses should consider developing a dedicated app for booking classes. This app would provide convenience for customers, streamline operations, serve as a marketing tool, and enhance the overall Paint and Sip experience.

Competitive Analysis

Although I have researched two well-established Paint and Sip franchises and Color Me Mine, a different art class franchise, none of them offered a dedicated app, so I focused on their mobile-optimized websites.

Positive: The strengths for Painting with a Twist, Pinot’s Palette, and Color Me Mine were that they offered easy navigation, as well as dedicated pages for each location. Both of the Paint and Sip sites had an intuitive and simple user flow for booking classes.

Negative: Color Me Mine, on the other hand, offered class bookings only for certain locations, and its busy background and quickly moving carousel image could negatively impact accessibility and mobile optimization. Painting with a Twist also had some areas with too small text which may cause issues for the visually challenged.

User Research

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users and their needs. The primary user group identified through research was adults who paint for recreation.

This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Cabernet & Canvas customers, but research also revealed that pain points may be how long in-person booking and payment processes can take. This app can simplify that process.
